Mid-Jordan Light Rail TRAX Construction Update: September 3, 2010
*This schedule is subject to change due to weather, materials issues, or unanticipated utility conflicts.

* Cottonwood Street will reopen to all traffic this evening.
* Winchester Street will be closed at the TRAX crossing from tonight, September 3 through Friday, September 17.
* Traffic on 7800 South in West Jordan will be subject to lane shifts continuing through mid-September.
* Night work near Winchester Street will continue through Saturday, September 11.
* 3200 West will be closed at 8600 South in West Jordan from September 8 through September 17.
* Please use caution when approaching railroad crossings throughout the project area. Crews and equipment travel on the rails frequently.

The Mid-Jordan TRAX line is a 10.6 mile light rail line connecting the communities of Murray, Midvale, West Jordan and South Jordan with the existing Sandy/Salt Lake TRAX line. It runs from the existing TRAX line at 6400 South to approximately 7400 South, then turns west along the Bingham Branch of the Union Pacific Railroad. At 5600 West, the line turns south again and ends at the southern end of the Daybreak development. For construction purposes, the line has been segmented into five sections. The map below shows each section in a different color, beginning with Daybreak on the southwest end and ending with Cottonwood at the northeast end.

Daybreak Area
(This segment runs north through the Daybreak development to Old Bingham HIghway at approximately 5600 West)
 

New vehicle testing is ongoing in Daybreak. Crews are preparing to install canopy components (such as slats and roof panels).

Daybreak Area
Daybreak Area - Daybreak Parkway Station, the test tent, new vehicles, and the future University of Utah Medical Campus.

 

Old Bingham Area
(This segment runs parallel to the existing UnionPacific Railroad Bingham Branch line, along the Old Bigham Highway from appoximately 5600 West to Bangerter Highway)

Landscaping continues at the 4800 West park & ride. The sound berms are being prepared for hydroseeding, and drainage work continues.

Sugar Factory Area
(This segment continues northeast along the UPRR Bingham Branch from approximately Bangerter Highway to Gardner Village)
 

The Redwood park & ride is scheduled for asphalt paving, and canopy work continues at the Redwood platform. Miscellaneous track work continues in this segment. The 3200 West grade crossing reconstruction will begin on Tuesday and last through Friday, September 17.

* ACTIVITY: Installation of storm drain, new asphalt, curb, gutter and concrete medians at 3200 West

TRAFFIC IMPACT: 3200 West will be closed at the intersection with 8600 West from September 8 through September 17.

Sugar Factory Area
Sugar Factory Area - Crews work to install arms on the overhead catenary system (OCS) poles near the Redwood Park & Ride.

 

Gardner Village Area
(This segment continues along the UPRR Bingham Branch northeast from Gardner Village to 700 West)

Crews will pour the ADA ramps and landings for the Gardner Village station platform. The Bingham Junction station platform is also scheduled to be poured this week. Track work continues in this segment as well, with destressing, surfacing, etc.

ACTIVITY: Bridge repairs at 7800 South

TRAFFIC IMPACT: 7800 South will have lane shifts in place through mid-September.

Garnder Village Area
Gardner Village Area - Canopies have been installed at the Gardner Village station.

 

Cottonwood Area
(This segment extends north from 700 West along the existing light rail alignment to its terminus as the 6400 South- Fashion Place Station)

The reconstruction of Winchester Street begins late tonight, and Winchester will be closed for approximately two weeks at the TRAX crossing. Canopies will be installed at the new Fashion Place platform.

* NEW ACTIVITY: Construction of new curb and gutter, sidewalk, concrete medians and repaving of Winchester Street.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: Winchester Street will be closed between Cottonwood Street and the TRAX crossing from September 6 through September 17.

ACTIVITY: Installation of OCS poles, wires, and power and signal equipment south of Winchester Street

IMPACT: Work will take place during overnight hours Saturday night, July 24 through Saturday night, September 11.

Cottonwood Area
Cottonwood Area - Concrete for the new west platform at Fashion Place Station has been poured.

Access during Construction
UTA is committed to maintaining 24-hour access to all of the businesses and residences along the construction corridor. We will coordinate with businesses in cases where access may be temporarily limited.

Construction Hours
Construction is permitted to take place between 7 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday. Additionally, specific activities may require different working hours depending upon conditions and will be coordinated with city officials.
