Overview

The Airport TRAX line is currently in the early stages of construction and utility work. The line branches off the north/south TRAX line at the Arena Station, travelling north along 400 West and then turning west on North Temple. It will travel west on North Temple to 2400 West, then follow the airport access road to the eastern edge of the airport’s Terminal One (See Maps for details).

Project Features

  • The line will feature six miles of ballasted and imbedded double track, both in separate rights-of-way and in-street along roadways.
  • Includes five stations along North Temple and one station at the airport, the stations will be located at the following approximate addresses:
    • 500 West Station
    • 800 West Station
    • 1100 West, located near the Utah State Fairgrounds
    • 1500 West Station
    • 1950 West Station
    • Airport Station, located just east of Terminal One
  • Initial 15-minutes service frequency
  • Projected cost of $250-290 million in years of expenditure (2009-2012).
  • Projected ridership of 14,000 daily passengers in 2030.

Travel Time Benefits

Expected users of the Airport Line are business and leisure travelers, airport-area employees, park-and-ride commuters and area residents. The Airport Line will help alleviate congestion in long and short-term parking at the Salt Lake City International Airport and enhance security. It will also provide greater access and mobility to the west side of Salt Lake City.
