The Utah Transit Authority will celebrate Women's History Month with a recognition event to be held on Wednesday, March 10, 11: 30 a.m. at the UTA corporate offices, 3600 South 700 West, Salt Lake City. This is the ninth annual recognition event hosted by UTA. This year's keynote speaker will be Pamela S. Perlich, PhD, Senior Research Economist at the University of Utah, Bureau of Economics and Business Research. Her topic will be 'The Changing Demographics of Utah.' UTA's annual National Women's History Month recognition event is an opportunity for men and women from the community to honor women and their role in history. As UTA recognizes this occasion, local women-owned businesses will have table displays at no cost to them. Past event speakers include Olene Walker, speaking in 2000 as the Utah Lieutenant Governor; Jacalyn S. Leavitt, former First Lady of Utah; Carole Mikita, KSL 5 Television; Mary Kaye Huntsman, First Lady of Utah; Patricia Jones, Utah House of Representatives: Lynda Jeppesen, Director of Human Resources for Larry H. Miller Groups; Carol Tuttle, Author; and Cassie Alvey, Director of Sales for Mrs. Fields Cookies. Fun fact: In 1981, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Rep. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) co-sponsored a joint Congressional resolution proclaiming a National Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress expanded the celebration to a month, and March was declared Women's History Month.
