Reflection and Celebration

Day one and two reflections

Future Search Conference Day 3

Comments from the last two days conference experience

  • I wonder how many attendees are being paid to be here? For instance, UTA employees, Wasatch Front Regional Council employees, that is a concern of mine. This cost me thousands of dollars every year. I think this conference is a great thing, but we need to remember that some people are being paid to be here to lobby.
  • As an elected official, it is true that I am paid to be here, but I also have a responsibility. Regardless of whether were paid or not we are here to do a job, to accomplish a positive thing for the future.
  • When I got back last night to my office, I had a chance to talk to planning staff and we implemented a review process, any planning proposal that comes into our city will be sent to UTA for comments. We have nine bus routes in our city. I appreciate the help with those. We really appreciate it. Everyone is very excited.
  • I am not being paid to come here. I was invited and I am glad I came. I give my input because I have some concerns. When the games are held will people get there on time in an orderly fashion, for instance.
  • I am being paid to be here because I requested the opportunity to come and my supervisor approved it and I am receiving my wage. It is very interesting to work with a lot of you. By show of hands how many of you are with UTA? How many are with private organizations that are not UTA? The reason I ask, is that one of the reasons I am here is my concern with accessibility and making sure people with disabilities not put on a shelf. We have worked hard over the last 12 years to get here. We don’t want special treatment, we want some kind of accessibility made to us. I am here because I work with disabilities legislature, if there is a problem with accessibility I am here. As a citizen my voice can be heard and I can make a difference. I have enjoyed it and learned a lot. When I go back to the office I can share this with them and people I work with outside the office.
