Future Search Conference Day 2 Group Discussion
Common Ground for the Future
As a group, conference attendees discuss what has been learned as a result of Day 2 activities.
- Defining values and themes has been an eye opener, just as yesterday was. I really have enjoyed the intermingling of the groups, meeting with new people every single time. We have our core group but when you mix up we hear fresh ideas, and view points. It has been a real eye opener in many ways.
- I enjoyed watching Steve, the roaming reporter, this morning. I think the process of creating the stories, brainstorming, thinking out of the box, seeing what might be possible was interesting. We may be constrained too much by traditional ideas.
- It has been an eye opener. What amazes me is to see different cultures, backgrounds, and minds all form together into a single goal. It just blows me away.
- The glaring point that comes out is how much we think alike across cultural barriers, financial barriers etc. How much we think alike and don’t think alike, giving us the opportunity to hash this out is a real process and an experience.
- Interesting value discussion or debate. A lot of the time we are saying the same thing but in different words. Even though we have listed numerous values and tried to identify them separately, it is difficult because they are so connected. It is very difficult to separate out as a single value.
- I enjoyed watching everyone work together this morning. There were great creative ideas, lot of fun. Interesting that as service providers and political leaders we can let down an ego. If we were not driven by our egos so many inhibiting barriers would be gone.
- I enjoyed the creativity as well, and watching the idea of what the future could be. I learned things from Day l that I did not know about in Utah County. It was interesting to project in my mind what is going on down there.
- This morning’s creativity was outstanding and worth the price of admission. I noticed a uniform theme throughout as well as creative thoughts. Thoughts were expressed without the fear of being "politically correct".
- I was impressed with the technology possibilities. Not just relating to the problems of the handicapped, but problems of the elderly, too. My mom has trouble with cell phone, satellite dish, and automated phone systems drive her crazy. A lot of people are technologically challenged not just the elderly. We must be sensitive to this.
- I was impressed most with meeting so many people, during our sessions and breaks. Talking with others and gaining as many ideas and knowledge as possible improves us as individuals. It has been a good process and I am anxious to see what we come up with tomorrow.
- I learned that there are a lot of viewpoints I don’t understand yet, that I am trying to figure out.
- I learned a lot, such as we all have different viewpoints. This information should be a big help for the future in simplifying decision processes.
- I say too much as it is, but I am impressed that we are not chasing in a wrong direction. There is plenty of focus here as to what we need to do. I am also impressed with the emphasis on technology. My organization is struggling with how many resources to devote to technology upgrades. It seems the creative ideas have had a lot of this involved. I am seeing a lot of emphasis in areas I was unsure about, which is very helpful to me.
- I enjoyed the value exercise. We have accomplished something through our struggle by being able to identify the values.
- I am looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning bright and early.
